Cleaning Products

Using natural cleaning products tie to at least 4 of the main dimensions of wellness and holistic lifestyle. They are safe for your health, preventing poisoning, they cause no harm to the environment, If you make them at home they are cheaper than most industrialized comparable products.

If you buy these products you will most likely find that the companies that produce them have a strong sense of social responsibility and give back to the community. They also abide by strict sustainable manufacturing practices that include a commitment to using ingredients that are safe, won’t damage the environment and fair work conditions in their factories.

Bottom line, there is no losing side to using Natural cleaning products. The biggest decision point is which ones you will make at home vs. which ones you will buy.

Preserving Health

When you decide to start using natural products, you are making a conscious move towards eliminating all products that include in their labels words like “warning toxic” “Flammable” which makes your house a lot safer especially if you have kids or pets at home.

A direct health benefit is that you will notice that Symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, skin rashes, headaches, and more may “mysteriously” disappear once you start using “green” products. Considering many of the hazardous chemicals in conventional products are often carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, or endocrine disrupters, it is definitely worth ditching them in favor of natural green cleaning products.

If I am still not convinced enough check out EPA ‘s (the United States Environmental Protection Agency) recommendation guide.

Preventing Poisoning

Some of the best-selling cleaning products in the supermarket include chemicals that are downright dangerous. Cleaning substances are the second biggest danger for kids 6 an under according to poison.org 2016 statistics. Additionally, they also highlight this same population has the greatest number of victims reaching 41.3 toddlers every 1000. Do you need more to be convinced of how important it is to eliminate these products from your home?

Environmental Benefit

Some of the industrialized products give themselves away as soon as you open them and the smell hits you like a 10 tons truck. They kill all happiness in the environment by replacing clean air with some sort of toxic vapor. Not even the fake essences that the companies try to use to cover the stink helps, in extreme cases it makes it worse.

We need to understand that cleaning products always go into the environment either through evaporation of the volatile components or down the drain when rinsing. Some of these chemicals have a very adverse effect on different ecosystems because the water treatments are not always capable of processing them adequately.

Buying less hazardous products have a positive impact by preventing the above described and increasing biodegradability, reducing packaging, lower toxicity &  improved air quality amongst others. All of these, of course, helps preserve this beautiful world that has been so generous with us.

Cheaper & Fun

Making these cleaners in most cases is easy and even fun. They can be your next home improvement project and get a beautiful positive bank account balance on top of it all.

You can often tackle several cleaning tasks with one natural product. The 2 biggest household friends are white vinegar and baking soda, they clean about anything.

A great all-purpose cleaner is
  • ½ C white vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp baking soda
  • 10 drops of tea tree, lavender or lemon (they have disinfecting properties and yum smell)
  • 12 oz Spray bottle
  • Water

Mix it all and done! You don’t need to rinse after using this combo on any surface, wipe with a cloth and let it dry.

There are many, many more but we will leave those for another post.
